Flu Information
Influenza ("flu") is a respiratory infection that can spread rapidly in large assemblies of people, like on our campus. Seasonal Influenza in Ohio typically occurs between December and March each year, but it is possible to get influenza any time of year. We also monitor for other large influenza outbreaks, such as the 2009 H1N1 pandemic.
Student Health Services provides programs to get students vaccinated against the flu during the fall quarter. If you forget, and have not been vaccinated, we usually have vaccine available during Winter Quarter as well. The flu vaccine is given annually, so that you can have protection against the most likely strains of influenza virus expected each year. Flu vaccine can also be important for international travelers.
During flu season, it is highly recommended that students pay attention to their health, wash or sanitize their hands frequently, stay away from classes and other large groups of people if they are sick with a fever.
Do I need both a season flu shot and an H1N1 shot this fall?
